Team #1 is Away!!

Bob Dorsey, Chris Green, Susan Spann, Jim Anderton, Bob and Julie Reed are flying down to Gulfport, Mississippi, February 19-26 as part of a six man team to assess the housing situation in Gulfport, Biloxi, and Pass Christian. Our goal is to set up a plan to send work teams from Good Shepherd and other interested churches to help rebuild/build houses for those police and firefighters who have been out of their homes since Katrina hit. We will be going in partnership with First Call, a local ministry who work with first responders (police and firefighters) in our area.

We will work alongside FCPO (Fellowship of Christian Police Officers) who are coordinating work for the first responders in Gulfport. We will meet with their representative and coordinate housing and transportation for workers going down, setting up a plan to be able to get people down and working with as little confusion and down time as possible. One of our goals is to set up a priority list for houses needing repair or rebuilding and finding out what kind of red tape there is (building codes, etc.) and the best ways to work through it. We've been asked to spend time visiting with a ministering to the police and firemen whether it be in the stations, their homes, or possibly even a ride-along.

Please pray for our team to be productive with our time, assessment of needs, and contacts. Pray for unity, wisdom, and safety as we feel out the best way to help and be Jesus' hands and feet to these brave, hardworking professionals.
